El otro día escuchaba unas declaraciones del presidente Lula da Silva que decía que de las reelecciones siempre han salido las dictaduras. Y eso es cierto. Y por eso son tan peligrosas las reelecciones indefinidas, porque cuando uno piensa que un proyecto no se puede concretar sin prescindir de uno mismo, ahí aparece el vicio y el gustito por el poder.

The problem with Chávez is that he believes that change can only come about in Venezuela through his person. The other day I heard a couple of things President Lula was saying about reelections always leading to dictatorships. And he’s right. And it’s for that reason that unlimited reelection is so dangerous, because when one starts to think that a project cannot be carried forward without oneself it’s there that the vice of the love of power appears.
