The existence of antisemitism in the world is, quite obviously, a problem for Jews and they have an interest in seeing its extent and gravity reduced. However, it is not their problem; its existence cannot be legitimately attributed to their existence or activities. If, therefore, the existence of Israel tends to reduce the virulence of antisemitism in certain countries then that is well and good but the legitimacy of Israel as a member of the community of nations cannot depend on it, nor would it be diminished even if it could be shown that its existence tended to aggravate the problem of antisemitism in the Middle East or elsewhere.
