I can still remember the bracing impact Paul Bew’s Land and the National Question in Ireland had on me when I was at university. He’s got a new book just out on the history of Ireland from the French Revolution to the present day. You can read Roy Foster’s review of it here. I particularly like the quote from Hazlitt

And I am always pleased to read a serious text that confirms the base nature and malign political influence of Charles J. Haughey.
